Vitamin D supplementation, in search of the right dose

The aim of vitamin D supplementation should be to achieve optimal vitamin D status, i.e. a 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration between 20 and 60 ng/mL in the general population and between 30 and 60 ng/mL in osteoporotic, chronically renal failure, frail elderly or malabsorbed patients. There are several supplementation modalities to achieve this goal.
